Staying true to the Finnish sauna traditions, SAWO sauna stones are Olivine diabase. The olivine diabase is the most suitable stone due to its excellent durability and high heat capacity. These high-quality stones are perfect for creating mellow and humid heat. The box contains mixed sizes of 30–60mm, 50–100mm, and 100–150mm which are suitable for all SAWO heaters.
Why most of the Finnish sauna companies recommend olivine diabase is that stones used in sauna heaters are exposed to extreme temperatures. When water is thrown onto the heater this causes a temporary rapid increase in temperature; good stones can handle these changes and will take longer before cracks appear. If the stones start to fall apart, small particles may prevent proper air circulation, causing overheating and shortening the life span of the heating elements.
Before using for the first time, we recommend rinsing any dust from the stones to avoid unpleasant smells. Read the heater user manual on how to load the stones properly; this will help keep your heating elements in good condition and improve air circulation.
